IMAGO – Imaging and modeling plant ovule growth and architecture

Summary: To identify novel mechanisms of female germ cell specification in plants, we are interested in elucidating 4D patterning events shaping the plant ovule. Preliminary results strongly suggest a causal link between ovule growth parameters and germline formation in Arabidopsis. To functionally test this hypothesis we combine imaging, modeling and genetic approaches. This project involves a pluridiscipliray consortium to (i) perform live and static 3D imaging of developing ovule primordia in Arabidopsis using confocal and multiphoton microscopy, (ii) quantify tissue growth at the cellular level, using 3D and 4D image processing, (iii) develop 2D and 3D computational models, (iv) functionally test candidate parameters by genetic and pharmacological approaches.
