Research interests

Dr Hervé Etienne has over 32 years of experience in Cell biology and biotechnologies. Actually, working as deputy director of the research unit DIADE. His research activities are focused on functional genomics of coffee and in biotechnologies (micropropagation, somatic embryogenesis). In the frame of the ECOM-CIRAD alliance, he is involved in the dissemination strategy of Arabica hybrid varieties throughout the world but mainly in Latin America, Central Africa and South East Asia, and of the monitoring of agronomic performance. He has co-coordinated the European project H2020 BREEDCAFS (2017-2022) and currently participate in the European projects Desira ROBUST (2021-2025) and Horizon Europe BOLERO (2022-2026) through research activities on the functional genomics of genes involved in root architecture and the technology transfer of vegetative propagation techniques for elite coffee varieties in vitro and in horticulture. He also initiates pioneer works in the development of Temporary Immersion Bioreactors in plant micropropagation.
